ENGLISH WITH FUN
 Dear friends.
Today we're having an unusual holiday "English with fun"
It's a great pleasure and a great honour for me to open it.
OK. Let's start. Dear boys and girls, our best pu­pils.
You've already learnt much about Ukraine, English-speaking countries, their cities, main holidays, famous people and now you can prove your knowledge of English.
So, we have2 teams. Each team consists of 10 players. Each team has its own table. I wish you good luck and let's start.
The 1st contest. Warming-up
The pupils are to draw three cards and name all the words connected with these themes:
      Vegetables
      Things in the Classroom
      Fruits
      Clothes
      Animals
      Partsof the body
      Colours
      School Subjects
Months
      The days of the week
      Food
Professions
      Seasons
      Weather
      Hobbies
      Holidays
      Presents
Music
The 2nd contest. Introduction of the teams
The pupils have some pieces of paper, felt-tips. They are to draw, make up their emblems and introduce the teams.
The 3 rd contest. Listening
The pupils are given the pictures.
Listen and tick (V) the right box (А, В or C), as in the example.

Where did Kevin and Anne spend last week­end?
Brian. What did you do last weekend, Kevin? Did you stay at home?
Kevin. No, Anne and I wanted to spend the weekend in the country..
Brian. Ah... so you went to your cottage by the lake, did you?
Kevin. No, this time we decided to go to the seaside. We both love swimming
1.  How did they travel?
Brian. Did you go to the nearest beach, then?
Kevin. No, we visited Brackton. It's a small village by the sea.
Brian. Really? Did you drive there?
Kevin. No. We wanted to relax at the week­end, so we didn't take the car.
Brian. How did you get there then?
Kevin. Well, there are no trains to Brackton, so we went by bus.
2.  What was the weather like in Brackton?
Brian. Was the weather good?
К е v i n. It was a bit cloudy early in the morning when we got on the bus...
Brian. Did it rain?
Kevin. Well, no. When we got to Brackton, it was sunny and warm. It was just perfect!
3.  Where did they stay?
Brian. Where did you stay? Did you find a ho­tel room?
Kevin. Oh, Brackton is a small village. There aren't any hotels there. There were a few rooms to rent, but we didn't like them.

Kevin. We spent the night on the beach. We slept in our sleeping bags
4.  Where did they have dinner on Saturday
evening?
Brian. How about Saturday evening?
К е v i n. We didn't arrive until three o'clock in the afternoon and we went swimming straight away. The beach was beautiful. After that we were very hungry!
Brian. Did you go to a nice restaurant?
[Kevin. We didn't want to spend lots of mo­ney... and we didn't like fast food either. So we bought sandwiches and drinks and we had a pic­nic on the beach.
5.  What did they visit on Sunday morning?
Brian. Did you spend Sunday morning on the beach, too?
Kevin. I wanted to, but Anne wanted to go sightseeing. We walked round the village to find the local museum.
Brian. Was it interesting?
Kevin. It was closed, so we went up the hill and we saw an old castle. It was very interesting.
6.  What time did they get back?
Brian. Did you get back on Sunday, then?
Kevin. Yes, we wanted to be back by Sunday evening.
Brian. Did you get home very late?
Kevin. Not really. We caught the four o'clock bus back and arrived home at half past six. It was a wonderful weekend
The 4th contest. Proverbs
Each team takes 2 proverbs.
The pupils read them and give Russian or Ukrainian equivalents.
      Rest is good after the work is done.
      There is a time for work and a time for play.
      Work with the rising sun, rest with the set­
ting sun.
Leisure is the mother of sins and the step­mother of virtues.
      A sound mind is in a sound body.
Health is better than wealth.
      Early to bed, early to rise makes a man
healthy, wealthy and wise.
      A good beginning makes a good ending.
      All is well that ends well.
      Better late than never.
      A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Speech is silver but silence is gold.
      Don't trouble trouble until trouble troubles
you.
      East or West home is best.
      He laughs best who laughs last.
The 5th contest. Word snake
The pupils must find as many words as they can and then circle them or write down.

The 6th contest. Captain's Contest
Tongue-twisters
The captains of the teams take one tongue-twister, read or say it as quickly as they can.
      Three grey rabbits in the grass grow roses
for us.
      Seven seals in the sea sing the songs to you
and me.
      Giggling geese are playing games, they are
going to race.
      Willie's whistle would whistle.
      Darling dolphins dive deep up and down
when they leap.
      A sunshiny shower
      Shows us its power.
      Find a shed for an hour.
      Lazy lion is lying smiling
      At his lion cubs and the lioness.
The 7th contest. Question and answers
The children are watching the tale "Cinderella". Then the teams must make up questions, ask and answer them.
1.              What is the title of the tale?
2.      How many daughters had father?
3.      Where did the family live?
4.      The family wasn't big> was it?
5.              What kind of girl was Cinderella?
6.      What did Cinderella do about the house?
7.      Who Knocked at the door?
8.              What did fairy make for Cinderella?
9.      What was the carriage made of?
10.    What was the time for Cinderella to ran away?
11.    Did the prince marry Cinderella?
The 8th contest. Running
The first member of each team runs to the table which is several steps away from the team's place. Then he reads the first sentence of the given text, remembers it, comes back to his team, tells this sentence to the second member of the team. The second pupil is to understand this sentence and write down it, after that he runs to the table, reads the second sentence, comes back to his team, tells the second sen­tence to the third person.

11.    Every morning the basket ran out of the
house.
